Nuss Surgical Procedure for Pectus Excavatum

Posted on February 19, 2013 by plouiselle Posted in News

The Nuss ProcedureDeveloped in 1986 by Donald Nuss, MD, the Nuss procedure revolutionized the correction of pectus excavatum by offering a minimally invasive solution to a previously invasive surgical procedure.

The benefits of the Nuss procedure compared to invasive procedures include:

• Considerably shorter surgery (about one hour compared to 4 hours).
• No anterior chest walls incisions are required.
• No elevation required of the pectoralis muscle flaps
• No incision of costal cartilage required
• No sternal osteotomy required
• Blood loss is minimal
• Length of stay is dramatically reduced (to about 4-6 days)
• Full recovery is quite rapid when compared to traditional techniques

The physicians of Pediatric Surgical Associates, Ltd have considerable expertise in the Nuss surgical procedure and are recognized as leaders in this innovative surgical technique.

For more information concerning this life changing procedure, please give our office a call at (612) 813-8000.

Urinary Incontinence

Posted on January 29, 2013 by plouiselle Posted in News

The nurse practitioners of Pediatric Surgical Associates specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of Urinary Incontinence in children.

Urinary incontinence can be defined as the loss of bladder control, which results in the accidental loss of urine. A child with Urinary incontinence may not stay dry during the day or night. Some Urinary incontinence is caused by a health problem such as:

  • constipation, a condition in which a child has fewer than two bowel movements a week and stools can be hard, dry, small, and difficult to pass
  • a urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • nerve problems
  • diabetes, a condition where blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high
  • kidney problems
  • a structural problem in the urinary tract

At times, the exact cause of Urinary Incontinence is not known, but it is often the result of more than one factor.  If your child is experiencing Urinary Incontinence, please schedule an appointment with one of our nurse practitioners.  We may be reached at (612) 813-8000.
