About

Dr. Vandersteen has spent his career working to promote urologic health and improving surgical outcomes both in America and around the globe. He specializes in all areas of pediatric urologic surgery but is particularly passionate about the care of patients with spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, neurogenic bladder, and bladder/cloacal exstrophy.

He has provided surgical workshops and instruction in bladder/cloacal exstrophy, spina bifida, hypospadias, complex hernia repair, disorders of sexual differentiation, and upper urinary tract reconstruction in Mongolia, Tanzania, Liberia (Africa), Cambodia, and multiple hospitals in Vietnam.

He has been the director of extramural pediatric urologic residency instruction at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for more than 20 years, having trained over 100 residents.
